About Dr. Ascher
Enrico Ascher, MD, is a board-certified vascular and endovascular surgeon with more than 45 years of experience in his field. As the founder and director of the Vascular Institute of New York, Dr. Ascher provides individualized, comprehensive vascular care to patients throughout Brooklyn and its surrounding neighborhoods in New York City, at the practice’s convenient location in Borough Park. In addition to his time at the Vascular Institute of New York, Dr. Ascher is Chief of Vascular Surgery at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn.
A native of Brazil, Dr. Ascher earned his Medical Doctorate from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1974 before completing his surgical residency at the National Institute of Health in the same city. He later completed an additional surgical residency and internship at New York Medical College in New York City, earning the coveted title of chief resident during his final year.
As an experienced vascular surgeon, Dr. Ascher diagnoses and treats a number of vascular conditions, including chronic venous insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), venous leg ulcers, diabetic vascular disease, pulmonary embolism, and hypertension. He is a frequent lecturer to professional societies and medical school faculties throughout the world, dedicated to uniting and expanding the specialty of vascular surgery.
Dr. Ascher is currently President-Elect of the Association of Chairs in Vascular Surgery, an active member of the International Relations Committee, the World Federation of Vascular Surgeons, the American Surgical Association, Co-Chairman of the VEITHsymposium™, and the founder of the Pan American Congress on Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.
With a broad range of vascular surgery experience, Dr. Ascher has contributed more than 250 articles to leading vascular surgery medical journals and is the author of over 65 textbook chapters.
